George Cornwallis-West was a British politician and aristocrat born on December 5, 1874. He was the son of politician Lieutenant Colonel William Cornwallis-West and his wife Mary Adelaide Fitzroy, daughter of the Duke of Grafton.
West was educated at Eton College and later attended Trinity College, Cambridge. In 1900, he was elected to the House of Commons as a Member of Parliament for Birmingham, but he lost his seat in 1906.
In 1900, West married Lady Randolph Churchill, the mother of Sir Winston Churchill. They had two sons, but their marriage was unhappy and they divorced in 1914.
During World War I, West served as a lieutenant colonel in the British Army. In 1919, he remarried, this time to Diana Manners, daughter of the Duke of Rutland. They had two sons and a daughter.
West was known for his extravagant lifestyle and love of cars. He set several land speed records in his early years and was a founding member of the British Racing Drivers' Club.
He passed away on July 28, 1951, at the age of 76.
